“In the tradition of the Von Trapps and the Jacksons, The Wonderful Kingdom of Papa Alaev profiles a long-running family musical act whose joyful musicality onstage is somewhat belied by the discordant notes hit behind the scenes.” — Variety

Meet Tajikistan’s answer to the Jackson Family. Jewish immigrants from Tajikistan to Israel, the musical kin are helmed with an iron tambourine by 80 year old Allo ‘Papa’ Alaev. As the indomitable patriarch ages, he finds himself losing his grip on the family business, resulting in a spirited clash of generations of the Alaev family. As the battle for power increases, the family foibles rage stronger, with dischord interrupting family events and testing loyalties.

Premiering at Hot Docs International Film Festival, this documentary is a compelling and entertaining warts-and-all portrait of a hugely talented multigenerational music act, set to a blazing soundtrack.
